It was a Sunday to remember for Michele Beretta (alongside teammates Frassineti and Testa) and the VSR team, who clinched a brilliant victory from pole position on the ultra-fast Monza circuit in the second round of the Italian GT Endurance Championship.
Expectations were high for the race in Brianza, especially after the unfortunate retirement in the season opener at Misano. For Mike and his teammates Andrea Frassineti and Rodrigo Testa, the goal was clear: to collect as many points as possible and get back into the title fight. Mission accomplished — and in great style.
Right from Saturday’s qualifying sessions, the #66 Lamborghini Huracán GT3 Evo 2 showed its potential, securing a superb pole position thanks to the excellent work done by the team during free practice.
On Sunday, surrounded by friends and fans, Beretta started the race with great determination. After a cautious start, Michele quickly found his rhythm and regained the lead from the competitive Easy Race Ferrari 296 GT3. His first stint was managed flawlessly, handing over the wheel to Frassineti with the car still in the lead.
Over the course of the three-hour race, there were intense battles with rival BMW, Audi, and Ferrari entries, and the #66 Huracán didn’t always benefit from the safety car periods.
The decisive phase came in the final stint, when Michele returned to the track for the closing part of the race. With composure and tenacity, he launched the winning move at the Parabolica, overtaking the AF Corse Ferrari driven by Spaniard Vidales and securing an authoritative overall victory.
“We did a tremendous job together with the team, and the victory was well deserved,” Michele said after the race. “Despite some unfavorable safety car situations, my teammates put in excellent stints. This result was exactly what we needed after Misano and gives us confidence for the rest of the championship.”
Thanks to this success, the crew of the #66 is now fully back in the title fight, climbing to 24 points in the overall standings — just 14 behind the leading Audi trio. The next round is scheduled for August 3rd at the Enzo and Dino Ferrari Circuit in Imola, where the battle for the Italian crown will heat up even more.
