The 2018 edition of Spa-Francorchamps 24 Hours was one of the most intense for Michele Beretta who, together with his team-mates Martin Kodric, Sandy Mitchell and Rik Breukers, fought for the Silver Cup class success at the wheel of Barwell Motorsport’s Lamborghini Huracan GT3 up to the last corners, closing at the end only on the second step of the podium behind by a few tenths from Ombra Racing’s Lamborghini. A battle that saw the two italian GTs exchange the leadership and flank with a very small gap from the eighth hour of the race until the checkered flag, despite an attempt in extremis of Barwell Motorsport to conquer the first place just few kilometers from the finish line.

A growing weekend for Michele Beretta and the other bearers of the British team, who can still celebrate a more than positive result (20th overall and 2nd in the Silver Cup) but above all important points from a championship perspective.

Michele Beretta: “It was an intense race, in which we pushed hard for the full 24 hours. Great duel with the guys from Ombra; we tried and believed to the last meter for the Silver Cup success, but in the end we have to settle for a second place finish, a second place at the 6 hour finish and a first place at the stroke of the 12 Hours, which means many points in the standings and that allow us to reduce the gap from the championship leaders. The car was fast and well balanced thanks to the good setup found in the tests, and the team did a great job. We were faster than Ombra’s car during almost all the race stints but the many Safety Car neutralizations penalized our job forcing us to loose many seconds. We just have to look with confidence at the last round in Barcelona.

With this result, Michele Beretta is now 4th in the Silver Cup standings, 21.5 points from the leadership. For the young italian driver, however, there is no pause: this weekend Michele Beretta will be again on track at Nurburgring: the german track will host the fourth round of ADAC GT Masters, where Michele will defend the Team Rosberg’s colors, always at the wheel of the Lamborghini Huracan GT3.
