In the third round of 2017 Lamborghini Super Trofeo North America Michele Beretta scores his first “star and stripes” podium: the driver from Lecco, onboard Prestige Performance/Wayne Taylor Racing’s Lamborghini has reached the target that missed in Watkins Glen, with a very good second place achieved in Race 1 at Elkhart Lake together his team mate Alex Popow. At the start, the venezuelan driver left the Huracan Super Trofeo in Beretta’s hands as fourth when, after few laps, the italian managed two overtakes climbing up to second place, defended until the chequered flag.
In Race 2 Beretta was in eighth position at the first corner, keeping it until the pit-stop where Popow took over the young 4Motorsport driver. Unfortunately, in the last lap Popow made a mistake when fourth, ending the race earlier. A DNF that it’s not a worry for Beretta, who consider this round so positive with many points achieved thanks to the first podium that raises them in the standings.
Michele Beretta: “It was a complicated but positive weekend. In Race 1 we did a great job and enjoyed a lot, especially in the last laps thanks to the very tight fight with Freiberg, conquereing the podium. In Race 2 we struggled a bit more, then Alex’s mistake took us out of the race just before the the chequered flag. However, we have proven to be able to fight for the win and at VIRginia International Raceway, our primary target will be the win.
